| The demand for solar energy is growing rapidly. The key for its growth is cost reduction. Laser processing is expected to play an important role to achieve that goal. The dominating laser sources used for PV-related processes are solid state lasers, which is due to the demand of simultaneously delivering high power, top beam quality, high repetition rates for high throughput, and excellent power stability for high quality. The laser applications in PV processes can be classified in five basic categories: cutting (isolation), scribing, drilling, alloying and doping.
